There's a desire for spontaneous, whimsical things at the start of this new year. The world is too much. Not just the appalling and harrowing stream of news but social media obligations and floods of WhatsApp shares. For the majority of our lives we are manipulated and controlled by media sources. This overarching control has, I believe bled into artists lives. The constant pressure to get work made and 'out there' and being encouraged by art 'experts' to create an 'identity' so that buyers buy into what you make. It's all so restrictive and creatively stifling. Perhaps this is why I'm starting the year in this way and perhaps these little acts of whimsy are also little acts of defiance. The moot point is the pleasure and escape into trivia and meaninglessness ... and anyhow, I am cat sitting and this is Daphne, who is an absolute darling. Contented people transmit contented vibes.
