A truly remarkable start to 2025. I thought about making a watercolour inspired by the bay. Nothing really came to fruition. I waited a few hours and this afternoon thought I'd made a quick watercolour drawing of a woman with a dog to add to the Animal Friends series I make from time to time (see entry 5th October 2020). The oddest thing happened. The figure I intended to be the back of a woman, took shape as a man and then the little drawing of the dog was all wrong so I tried to cover it up completely with roughly applied paint. The newly formed blob looked like a rock. That made me want to put another blob over the head of the figure. This was all done very quickly and with no thought whatsoever, other than covering up 'mistakes'. I quite liked the look of the 'rock' so added two little feet. Next I decided to add two 'eyes' to the figure's head. I could see that the (now male) head was also encased in a rock. Anyone reading this is probably thinking 'so what'. But the outcome is 100% relevant to an email I received yesterday and the male figure that magically appeared, looks like the sender. This is all very positive by the way. I am sitting here absolutely overwhelmed by the power of the subconscious. In every way possible, I feel comforted and 'on the right path'. I'm acknowledging the sign and will be focussing on drawing. Oddly what I have been thinking about anyway for the past few weeks. I never did want to be a painter of the landscape although will no doubt feel a need to respond. But today's drawing/painting is on a whole other level. So entering a new year today feels totally magical.
