Taken with a Leica Q2, manual settings, F2.8, 1/2000, ISO200. There are more than 250 living species of cockle. These are common cockles, found mostly along the coastlines of Northern Europe (if only we were still in Europe!). Cockles are capable of jumping with their one foot, by bending and straightening it. The shells are exquisite and although pale-looking at a distance, close-up you can see many tones of pink, blue, grey, umber, ochre and sienna. The opposing textures inside and out make them quite beautiful to touch
