Another from the plein-air sketchbook. Usually I note the windspeed, wind direction and temperature. Living on the coast, every day is pretty much determined by the weather and tide times. A number of sketches note the tide times as well. I must reinstate that, since I check it every day anyhow. The tides are a good indicator of how the day will pan out weather-wise. On cloudy days the sea pulls the clouds in with it and often you get a shower or murkier light at high tide. Once the tide turns to ebb again, the weather usually clears. These things you get to know after years living by, or should I say ‘with’, the sea. It is so humbling and connecting to live in accordance with something greater and more infinite than oneself. You realise you are as fleeting as the clouds. A tiny dot in time. In a world of battling egos, you can stand back and smile.
