Windsor and Newton make a superb watercolour field set. It's the size of a pack of pocket tissues and there's room for 12 colours. I carry it everywhere. It's so complete, with a fold out mixing palette, water bottle, water dish and brush ... yes, all in that tiny size. Not wanting to carry one of my larger (and expensive) watercolour brushes, I make sketches like this one using the tiny brush that comes with the set. It's good practice to adapt to tricky ways of working and that little brush has afforded some satisfying sketches. I love that you can capture a large subject with such baby-sized equipment. I made this sketch on the rocks at Fairy Chapel Bay, Heysham. One of my favourite places to sketch and just 'be'
