The rocks on Carbis Bay beach are so varied. From intense black, to ochre to purple and oxide greens. There must be copper? I'll need to research the geology. In the meantime, I spotted this purple phallus, which could also be interpreted in part as female sex organs. So it's a kind of hermaphrodite representation. Oddly, I was at the Ithell Colquhoun exhibition at Tate St Ives yesterday looking at similar paintings. I can't help thinking Ithell has followed me onto the beach today
