Cyanotype, size A3. Landscape with implement. Making these double exposure cyanotypes, creates a third image, giving rise to new narratives and a corridor inviting the subconscious to engage. Images within images. Something I'll be exploring on my six-month analogue darkroom residency at Assembly Arts in Lancaster starting mid-April. It can't be a coincidence that this comes a year and a half into a personal journey with a truly remarkable psychoanalyst. Where would I be without him. I have always 'seen things' within everyday objects. It's a phenomenon called pareidolia and it's been a very strong visual aspect of my life since childhood. A magical 'other' world in which to escape and be inspired by. I appreciate there's a sinister quality to these pieces, or perhaps, as my dear friend Linder suggested recently, a link to neo-romanticism. Being a hopeless romantic, this is something I need to explore further.
