It’s good to be here without the usual gamut of art materials I have at home. Where does this insistent drive to make something stem from? Today I tried using watercolour on a white A4 envelope my mother’s Week magazine arrived in. What a surprise. The paper held up brilliantly. Making even a few marks on paper and experimenting is rewarding, not least for the discovery that you don’t need expensive art materials to make a painting or drawing
