The ancient woodland at Heysham Head with cow parsley clouds, red campion, green arkanet and rich carpets of bluebells. At dusk the wood echoes the sound of Tawny Owls. The village spreads outwards and upwards from the woodland and the effect is much like an amphitheatre. There’s no main road either and the westerly sea breezes beyond the woods further amplify the glorious birdsong, so that the entire village is bathed in it
