You can’t expect magic to happen every day but when it does, you know it happens through you, not because of you. The important thing is to keep on making, keep on thinking, keep experimenting. Only then the magic may come. Yesterday I made some very random marks in a sketchbook. The marks were made up of what I loosely refer to as ‘organic forms’. The yellow and green blobs on my A3 page looked to be the shape of a cat. It’s a bit like the cloud watching experience where you may spy all manner of things from teapots to elephants! So back to the yellow and green blobs … This morning I painted over the shapes forming a cat, with black ink making a couple of slight adjustments. Because of an interest in the underlying nature of things (which is highly structured in terms of the atoms everything is made up of), I overlaid one of my highly structured drawings. This particular drawing seems to bring the essence of the underneath to the surface. It can be experienced and felt, even though that may be subconscious. I have applied the drawing to other forms both photographic and painted in a desire to convey both the seen and the unseen. Today I am grateful for the gift but don’t expect to be given another today. I’ll keep on making in the hope another may present itself one day.
