Finally sunshine. On dry days the rocks along the shore beckon. At the north end of Fairy Chapel Bay the rocks are teaming with lichen. A good sign, since lichen favour pollution-free environments. The yellow lichen (Xanthoria parietina) are almost florescent. I like to think of them as rock flowers. This yellow lichen is also aptly known as maritime sunburst lichen or shore lichen. The green hairlike growths I think are Ramalina siliquosa, also known as sea ivory. They are a vulnerable species, so it’s very heartening to see them growing here.
