It was what the Scottish called ‘dreich’ today. How perfectly this describes low, enveloping cloud with wall to wall rain or drizzle. It was worth venturing out with a sketchbook though. The bay was beautifully tonal with an almost stopped-time quality. My family were here and the blessing is that we all paint. So off we headed with our paints and sketchbooks. We almost didn’t bother to get them out but I thought we should. It’s a kind of stubborn defiance I have. The drizzle turned out to be a bonus, aiding this little watercolour and rendering it far prettier than ever I could.
