It has dawned on me that photography is the most life-affirming habit I have. The one thing worth living for. Walking on the prom, camera hanging loosely around my neck, I spot this boy on the railing. It’s a split-second shot. The light is perfect, every position is perfect. I turn super fast and shoot. This moment in a boy’s life, his excitement. The tide rushing in. His parents safely below. I’m almost crying. When I upload the image I spot the tiny stick he’s thrown into the breeze. I wonder how far it travelled here to reach his hand. What a gift to freeze time with this gift of an impressive camera. Thanks to Lubaina Himid, the world awakens.
