After a long leave of absence, Image a Day is back. Perhaps it's a reckless decision to forfeit a regular income for the luxury of time. But without time, I cannot create and have come to realise, that creativity is my primary driver. Without it, I kind of die inside. So after two and a half years working through the pandemic for the NHS, it's time to refocus. Morecambe bay woke to a crystal clear day today. The light sharpens here in the autumn and winter months. I walked to a place I call 'The Other Side' with an artist/photographer friend. This is one of our favourite spots alongside the perimeter of two active nuclear reactors. Photographically the angles and curves create myriad photographic possibilities. Revelling in the purity of light we turned a corner to be greeted with this alien structure. Juxtaposed with the pure light, its foreboding black form seemed so out of place with the day. Then there was the smell. An overpowering stench of rotting fish and decaying rubber. But visually this giant rubber 'thing' was compelling, so we were able to override the odorous attack. I'm not sure whether this is an ominous omen for my return to Image a Day but certainly it was memorable in every sense. If anyone has any idea what this structure is, I'd love to know!
