Response to a 12 mile walk in the South Lakes, mostly through woodland, egg tempera on paper, 40 x 30. I've desaturated the image as it looked way too chocolate box in colour. Every journey leads to a little more understanding. Perhaps tomorrow I'll use ink and rice paper, although the painting was deliberately started with loose evolving forms in soft fleshy pink (hence the unwanted kitsch of the original). Evolution is a theme I've been exploring for a few years. As well as evolutionary science, I am interested in the underlying mystery surrounding life. There is still no unifying scientific theory and the word theory may be apt. I am fired up by science but equally by mystery. Mystery keeps the imagination so alive and free to wander.
