Turner has been an inspiration for years and to know he painted Morecambe Bay, Lancaster and The Lake District is pretty special. I've never tried to emulate his work, preferring instead to find my own processes. Last night however, I discovered Turner had been inspired by Richard Parkes Bonington, a romantic painter of French coastal scenes who sadly died at the age of 26. So last night with the knowledge Turner had been inspired by Bonington's work, I thought it would be interesting to try and paint a little more like Turner (and thereby, by Richard Parkes Bonington). It's been truly inspirational and has helped me to appreciate the complexities of colour, tone and composition. Almost half the sky is pretty much untouched and there's a need for far more subtle and delicate brush work. A great lesson learned from these masters and I live in the perfect setting to continue this exploration. Frankly very excited!
