Thrilled to have been given two large studio rooms to use in Heysham Village. This means I can once again focus on these pieces in oils. They can take months to complete as I don't use drying agents. The surface is built up in layers of edits and re-edits, until finally a resonant image emerges. I am now able to work in a successive rota which means having around 10 or more paintings on the go. It's an enjoyable process. The drying time offers an imposed detachment to each painting and consequently the revisit between layers is met with fresh eyes. As a practice, there's a happy balance between these and the more fluid and spontaneous cloudscapes.
