This borage is growing along the pavement in our street. Borage is also known as Starflower. The herb has been used medicinally for centuries. It can be used as an aid for hot flushes in menopause along with stomach cramps, diarrhoea, kidney and urinary tract infections. When I photographed this today, it was visited by a great many bumble bees. Such a useful plant and so pretty too. Borage flowers and leaves are edible. The flowers have a sweet honey-like taste and can be used to decorate salads. In Italy borage is used to flavour pasta and ravioli and in Germany it is used to make Green Sauce, a dish renowned in Frankfurt.
